DESCRIPTION

Dakota DawnDakota Dawn is a new medium maturing fresh market cultivar developed by North Dakota State University and a specialty release in 2022. The variety has a unique and attractive buff colored selection with purple splashes, medium yellow flesh, and a round to oval tuber type. The vine maturity is medium, and the selection has medium to high yield potential.

Flowers are purple, and the foliage exhibits some anthocyanin pigmentation. Specific gravity levels are low to medium, with a mean across location of 1.0756. Advantages of Dakota Dawn, in addition to attractive appearance, include low incidence of internal disorders, similar blackspot and shatter bruise potential as standard fresh market cultivars, and low total glycoalkaloid levels (2.83 mg/100g fw) compared to Lenape (21.48 mg/100g fw). Dakota Dawn is very flavorful with excellent culinary quality, making it well suited for urban agriculturalists and culinary artisans.
